“Rain Lover”: The First Chapter
In the summer of 2024, “Pluviophile – The Rain Lover” debuted as a scent exhibition by perfumer Rei Nguyen. In that first chapter, R Parfums chose to connect kindred spirits through a shared language: the scent of rain.
“Pluviophile” revealed rain not just as weather, but as a landscape of memory—a space where anyone could find a familiar emotion, a personal pause, or a gentle sanctuary for themselves.
A Soliloquy in the Rain
Set within a space simulating a suspended downpour, “Pluviophile” created a world apart. There, the sound of water, music, and stories are interwoven just enough, allowing the sense of smell to guide emotions. Inside that rain, everyone finds their own refuge.
Through the lens of rain, the artist chose to dialogue with loneliness. Yet, it bore none of the bleakness of a storm; it was a happy solitude, where we learn to listen to and embrace oneself with the rawest tenderness.
From that pure emotion, the “Pluviophile” rain was recreated through these distinct scent interpretations.
The Rains of Memories
Each person will have their own memory of rain. In the first chapter of “Pluviophile,” rain in our memories is recreated through seven distinct scent stories.
There are memories of carefree childhood days, with bare feet stepping hesitantly onto a plush bed of cool grass. There are rains that begin with gentle anticipation, as the first drops fall, mingling with the green bitterness of leaves and the soft humidity of soil after days of drought.
There are also times when the rain in our memories floats like sweet cotton candy clouds amidst the bustling train station, where loneliness finds solace. Or it carries the characteristic chill of a leisurely afternoon watching the gentle spring rain fall on the peaceful lake.
And there are rains seen through transparent umbrellas – when water surrounds us on all sides, yet we remain dry, safe, and still. In a quieter corner, there is an old wooden bench. Wood holds a natural memory; it silently records the warmth, the faint touches, and the stray thoughts of those who sat down.
And when the rain passes, the delicate wildflowers beneath the massive trees sway and twirl in the water, murmuring the cool, refreshing sounds of life, a sign of the happiness and pure emotions we have found.

In that initial chapter, we poured in our own memories to create a space where people could seek shelter and feel understood. Within that haven, loneliness transformed into a gentle pause, teaching us how to simply stay with ourselves.
That year’s rain eventually ended, leaving behind memories safely held in the rain – a peaceful haven, a pause for the soul, and a simple sense of happiness.
Right before every rain, there’s a moment when the air begins to shift, the world seems to hold its breath in a moment of waiting, and somewhere, the first rustle of fluttering wings appears. That’s when a new chapter of “Pluviophile” begins.
