Visiting Saigon
Taking Saigon home.
Souvenirs are easy to find. Something that still brings the trip back a year later is harder. Every bottle of R Parfums is made in Vietnam, and some of its stories began here: an old Hanoi custom of sugarcane laid among pomelo blossoms, relics in Huế streaked with moss and worn metal. A little on the wrist, back home, can return you to the street where you bought it. Here is how to find the three houses in a few days, which size to carry, and what to know before you fly.

Three houses
34 Nguyễn Duy Hiệu, Thảo Điền
The first house, open since July 2022, across the Saigon River from the city centre, in An Khánh Ward. Until April 2022 it was a private home; its walls were opened into arches, and a glass room was later added at the entrance to let in the daylight. The house is kept quiet, so that a scent can be met slowly, and its rooms have held R Parfums’ scent exhibitions. It closes earlier than the two houses in Sài Gòn Ward: it is a house for the morning and the afternoon. 34 Nguyễn Duy Hiệu
42 Nguyễn Huệ, Level 2
Our own corner inside NOTE – The Scent Lab, in The Café Apartment building on Nguyễn Huệ Walking Street. Walk to number 42 and go up to Level 2; the team at the counter will open all six scents for you. It stays open late enough for a visit after dinner. A scent needs time on the skin before it shows its base: wear one here, walk the street, and decide on your way back. 42 Nguyễn Huệ
26 Lý Tự Trọng, Level 3
The newest of the three: our corner inside Saigon Scent Lab, in the same ward as Nguyễn Huệ, roughly 570 metres away as the crow flies. You can come over lunch or after dinner, so one evening can take in the two houses in Sài Gòn Ward. 26 Lý Tự Trọng

Smelling them
At each house, all six scents stand open on the counter, from Eau de Hajime to Béton Chaud. Try them on paper first. Then choose one for your wrist, and see how it has changed by evening. A paper strip shows the opening; your skin shows the rest.

Vietnam, inside the bottle
Every bottle is made in Vietnam, and some of these stories began here.
- Nostalgic March comes from an old Hanoi custom: peeled sugarcane laid among pomelo blossoms until it took their scent, then eaten in the afternoon with tea. Its chapter reads one March day in the old quarter, top to base: Hàng Buồm in the early mist, the shade on Phan Đình Phùng, Hàng Đào under the lamps.
- The Patina plate began with relics in Huế, the old capital, streaked with moss and worn metal. The brass is the work of craftspeople in Vietnam, from the first wash to the moment the three pieces sit on the glass. Twelve months of research and development went into the line. How the Patina bottle is made
- The Ceramic cap is made at a ceramics studio in Vietnam: liquid clay poured into white moulds, each mouth cut one at a time, a glaze that goes on pink and comes out of the kiln in a colour that recalls Chu Đậu ware. Ceramic and fire
Flying home with it
On international flights, liquids in your cabin bag usually have to be in containers of 100 ml or less, about one litre in all, in a sealed bag. A 50 ml or a 12 ml bottle fits. Rules differ between airlines and airports, so check with yours before you fly.
