The Ceramic bottle

Clay, fire, glaze

Patina takes its colour on brass. Ceramic takes its colour in the kiln.

Why this cap

I · Cast in a mould

Each sphere is cast in a white mould. Its opening is then cut and wiped smooth by hand.

II · A glaze that recalls Chu Đậu

The glazes recall Chu Đậu, the old ceramics of northern Vietnam. Brushed on raw, they are pink. Only the fire shows what the colour will be.

III · Fired in the kiln

The kiln fixes the colour, and each firing gives a slightly different shade. In the hand, the glaze shifts with the light.

IV · Tassel and charm

The tassel comes from the maker’s hand, and a small ceramic charm engraved with R goes into the box beside it.

What you see

The studio and its long table. Clay kneaded on plaster. Liquid clay poured into white moulds. The opening of each sphere cut and wiped. Rows drying on trays. Pink raw glaze brushed on. The kiln. The spheres after the fire, in colours the pink gave no sign of. Last, a box dressed with a tassel and a charm.

The scent inside

The very first

A classic chypre floral, made clean and bright. Oakmoss, bergamot, patchouli and white flowers are all there, with a touch of amber; over them, the green sweetness of early-season pear.

Patina and Ceramic hold the same Eau de Hajime; only the bottle differs.

Perfumer’s memo

“Hajime” means “the first time” in Japanese. This was the first fragrance I ever created — a beginning held in scent. There was tenderness, clarity, curiosity, and above all, a quiet joy: the joy of finally finding where I belonged.

Same scent in Patina

Eau de Hajime in Patina on Brass

The idea came from relics in Huế; twelve months of research and development went into the Patina line. Three brass pieces are corroded, filed and polished, then set on the glass, and each bottle is one of a kind. How a plate is made

Questions

Questions about Eau de Hajime in Ceramic

Anything else: +84 89 649 0038 or info@r-parfums.com.

What sets the glaze and the tassel?
Each cap takes its glaze from the kiln and its tassel from the maker’s hand; neither colour can be requested. Every bottle has a ceramic charm engraved with R.
Will my cap look exactly like the photograph?
Close, not identical. A glaze changes with the light and with each firing, so caps from different firings differ slightly.
Is there a smaller size?
Yes: Eau de Hajime 12 ml, 1.177.200 ₫US$45; a 2 ml sample, 210.600 ₫US$8; or the Discovery Set of five 2 ml vials, 918.000 ₫US$35. Smaller sizes
