Why this bottle
Patina is the thin film that forms on brass in air and moisture. It looks like corrosion; in fact it shields the metal beneath.
The idea came from relics in Huế; twelve months of research and development went into the Patina line.
Between the plates, the perfume glows gold through the glass and holds the three together.
Film · Eau de Hajime, 2022
The short film made for Eau de Hajime in 2022. A white flower falls past the bottle on a slab of stone. The camera finds ripe pears, beaded with water. Two hands hold the bottle up to show its plate; then a hand sets it down among halved pears and white flowers.
The bottle you receive is the Patina bottle as it is made today.

Warmed, then coloured by hand
The brass is warmed until the moisture lifts, then given thin washes of oxides and metal salts, by brush, spray or sponge. The chemistry gives the colour; the hand gives the pattern.
Filed and polished
Each piece is ground and polished so it sits close on the glass.
Three pieces set on the glass
Three to a bottle: one left whole, one fully patinated, one caught midway.
Sealed under a UV-resistant coat
It keeps hard light off the patina and still lets it breathe. The coat slows the change; it does not stop it.
The scent · Chapter I
Hajime means “the first time” in Japanese. A classic chypre made clean and bright: white flowers with the green sweetness of an early-season pear, and a touch of amber underneath.
“This was the first fragrance I ever created — a beginning held in scent.”
The perfume is the same in every Eau de Hajime bottle. The chapter tells the rest: narcissus, a flower that will not give up its oil to steam, and the three or four weeks a bulb takes to flower.

Eau de Hajime, by R Parfums, is pear and flowers over moss: a classic chypre made clean and bright. Petitgrain, pear and bergamot open onto rose, sambac jasmine and narcissus, over patchouli, labdanum resin, oakmoss and amber.
