Recognition at the Golden Osmanthus Awards 2026

Competing in the Best Overseas Fragrance category, Shadow Éclat is honored to be the sole representative from Vietnam among the finalists, standing alongside five renowned international houses: Hellenist, Ella K, and Mancera (France), BORNTOSTANDOUT (South Korea), and Arabian Oud (Saudi Arabia).

Reaching this stage followed a rigorous selection process spanning several months:

  • Over 700 entries submitted by more than 200 fragrance houses worldwide.
  • Three independent stages of evaluation, beginning with a brand assessment, followed by professional judging from an international jury, and a blind test featuring nearly 2,000 votes from the fragrance community.

For Shadow Éclat, reaching the final shortlist is a significant milestone, placing a Vietnamese fragrance among established international names.

About the Golden Osmanthus Awards

Founded in China in 2023 by the China Daily Chemicals Association (CHCIA) and Rayli Magazine, the Golden Osmanthus Awards is currently one of Asia's most prestigious independent fragrance accolades.

Far more than a ceremonial recognition, GOA is regarded by international industry professionals as a rigorous benchmark of craftsmanship and conceptual depth. Held annually to celebrate outstanding domestic and international creations, the awards focus on advancing olfactive culture and fostering sustainable development across the fragrance industry.

The competition spans two primary divisions: fine fragrance and home fragrance. Every submission is comprehensively evaluated by an expert jury across two core criteria: olfactory excellence and visual aesthetic.

Bringing Shadow Éclat to GOA 2026, R Parfums sought to place our creative philosophy and formulation technique before an international panel, where a fragrance is judged purely on scent, beyond geographic or cultural borders. It is an opportunity for the composition to speak through scent itself.

Behind Shadow Éclat: “The Radiant Darkness”

The fragrance draws inspiration from James Moriarty—the iconic antagonist of Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes canon. Yet rather than perceiving Moriarty through a conventional lens of villainy, Perfumer Rei Nguyen saw a character defined by flawed brilliance, intellect, and profound pride. A man who chose to remain within the shadows of London, quietly observing the order of the world around him.

From its earliest conception, Shadow Éclat was created in dialogue with 221B—a creation representing the luminous idealism of Sherlock Holmes himself. While 221B employs clean leather, rose, and tobacco to depict a rational yet passionate intellect, Shadow Éclat emerges as its inseparable counterpart in the shadows.

An Exploration of Duality

In Arthur Conan Doyle's detective universe, Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty are more than opposing forces of good and evil. They are two evenly matched masterminds, constantly mirroring and propelling one another forward. Their battle of wits reflects a dialogue between two halves of a cohesive totality: order and chaos, light and shadow.

This duality lies at the heart of the perfumer's approach. Rather than resolving the tension between opposites, the compositions allow it to exist. The light of 221B and the darkness of Shadow Éclat find their meaning in relation to one another, much like the perpetual transition of day into night that completes a singular, unbroken circle.

Where the moon meets the sun. Where yin and yang look into each other. Pure as day is night. A place where every element is allowed to take its true role, and to be set exactly where it belongs — just as Moriarty chooses to stand in the dusty night mist of London. I call this the radiance of darkness.

Shadow Éclat notes

Shadow Éclat opens with an unexpected softness. Rather than overwhelming the senses, it draws you in gradually, much like Moriarty, a master of disguise moving unnoticed through the streets of London. As the fragrance unfolds, its smoky, green leather facets begin to emerge: suede leather against the soft herbal calm of geranium, with the smoky honeyed facets of osmanthus and immortelle. The suede is rendered with restraint, like an elegant dark tone moving through shadow.
