The R Parfums Journal is the written record of a perfume house in Saigon, kept since July 2023: essays on the six scents, notes from exhibitions such as “Pluviophile” and “Letters from 221B Baker Street: Scents of Shadow”, pieces on how the Patina on Brass bottle and the ceramic cap are made, press features and house news.

Every essay can be read in English; 46 of them are translations from the Vietnamese, made in 2026 and marked as such on their pages.

Patina on Brass

Three pieces of brass, corroded, filed and polished by hand, then set on the glass. When the plate is set, one is still brass, one has turned fully to patina, and one is caught midway.

Ceramic

Liquid clay poured into white moulds, the mouth cut and wiped by hand, raw glaze brushed on, still pink, then the kiln at 1000°C. The colour of the glaze shifts with the light and from one firing to the next.

What is the R Parfums Journal?

The written record of R Parfums since July 2023: 70 essays on the six scents, the exhibitions, the making of the Patina on Brass bottle and the ceramic cap, press features and house news.

Can I read the essays in English?

Yes, all 70 of them: 24 were written in English and Vietnamese; the other 46 were written in Vietnamese and translated into English in 2026, and each is marked as a translation on its page.

Where can I see how the bottles are made?

On two craft pages: Patina on Brass, with the film Series #1 — The Patina Bottle, and Ceramic, with the silent film Ceramic and fire (1:29), shot at the pottery.

Can I smell the scents I read about?

All six scents, to try on skin, are at our three houses in Ho Chi Minh City, open every day: R Space, 34 Nguyễn Duy Hiệu, Thảo Điền; 42 Nguyễn Huệ, The Café Apartment building, Level 2, inside NOTE – The Scent Lab; and 26 Lý Tự Trọng, Level 3, inside Saigon Scent Lab.
